Original Bleistift-Zeichnung auf Zeichenkarton. -- Blatt-Maße: ca. 16 x 12,5 cm. -- rückseitig mit alten Montageresten, sonst gut erhalten. || Original pencil drawing on cardboard. -- with old mounting remains on verso, otherwise in good condition. || Dessin original au crayon sur carton. || Jean-Dominique van Caulaert is a French painter, poster artist, caricaturist, illustrator and decorator. He designed his first poster in Belgium in 1916. In 1923 and 1924 he illustrated covers of musical scores for a Belgian publisher, Musical Office, for which Magritte and other painters also worked. In the 1930s and 1940s, he designed numerous posters for Mistinguett, Marie Dubas, Joséphine Baker, Cécile Sorel, Suzy Solidor, Lys Gauty and Tino Rossi. In 1933, he exhibited at the Chéron gallery. He resided at the Villa des Arts (Montmartre) from the 1930s until his death in 1979. During the 1930's he has drawn many caricatures and portraits of members of the Parisian artist scene. |
