Around the year 1887, he takes up drawing, under the direction of Jean-Charles Cazin, a landscape painter from Pas-de-Calais. From 1888 to 1889 he studies at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon. In 1890, Ricard-Cordingley moved to Paris and studied at the Academie Julian under Benjamin Constant, Louis Martinet and Jules Lefebvre. From 1892 to 1896, he embarks in three expeditions in the North Sea and Atlantic Ocean, producing numerous studies of sea scenery, as well as images of the port and portraits of the fishermen. This is his first encounter with a subject that would follow him throughout his art |
