Very Good-Excellent overall antique cond: Offered for your review & consideration is this very handsome & very well preserved, late 19th c American folk art antique primitive sporting O/B painting of a pair of hunting dogs chasing down ducks by a marsh edge or stream, w/a single hunter holding a shotgun seen off to the R in an open field. The work's unsigned but the artist was clearly much better & more accomplished than a mere amateur or 'Sunday painter.' The pair of dogs appear to be well rendered springer spaniel hunting dogs, w/the dog on the R & seen above the burnt sienna haired dog, having a white haired coat w/rust colored spots. The 2 dogs appear prone & focused on the task at hand, possibly in pursuit of a wounded duck, injured & partially hidden in the high grasses of the marsh. Their long-haired tails point straight backwards behind them. The stream's rendered flowing back into a wooded tree line, w/a pair of trees in the center. It was found unframed. Very nice. |
