Very Good-Excellent overall vint cond: Offrd for yr rvw & cnsdrtn is this very intriguing & European Pointilist inspired, American vint lndscp pntng on artist's board by the Greenfield, MA born female artist Edith Allen Lowell. The hvy prssd pulp board, which rcvd the paint, dsn't appr to hv bn prev gesso'd & the quick, hvy impasto sm swatches of paint are referred to as points. From this, the painting category of Pointilism was initiated, in an attempt to w/language, describe the kinetic, gestural, quick application of sm swatches of color pigment, that up close are easily rcgnzbl & fragmented as spots of color but from a distance, become more organized, taking on the essence of defined forms, while dscrbng the whole, nrly dissipate & work to create vibrating, pure spots of color, which appear soft & as if refracted light. This Pointilist technique was used by sev European early Modernist painters & even much later used in a contemporary sense by the American painter Chuck Close. Nice |
