Offrd for your rvw & cnsdrtn is this absltly wndrfl & incrdbly well-pres late 19th-early 20th c Masons Challenge Blacking American folk art, early mercantile antique prmtv, double paper lbld, shoe blackening paste advrtsng wd shipping box crate w/hinged lid & affixed lg int figurative, color litho'd paper label. The paper lbl's mrkd 'Trump Label Co., NY.' There's some mnr paper loss occurring on the far R of the thin front paper lbl affxd to the narrow frnt sdwll of the box. This wld be quite mnr cnsdrng the other lg affxd paper lbl fnd on the inside lid of the box is fully intact & smply glorious, w/rich, vivid saturated colors, undiminished by the depreciating effects of sunlight. The paper lbls are also devoid of any stains, lt or dk. Aside from the implications of the obvious iconography, it's a terrific pc of early American mercantile advrtsng as well as a superb example of lt 19th-early 20th c Black Americana. truly outstanding. |
