Bleistift und Buntstift-Zeichnung auf Papier -- obere Außenecken etwas fleckig, sonst gut erhalten || Pencil and colored pencil drawing on paper -- upper outer corners a bit stained, otherwise in very good condition || Charles Jouas was a French designer, painter and illustrator. Born in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine in Paris, Charles Jouas attended several workshops, including that of Georges Clairin, a student of Isidore Pils, and of Henri Regnault. He worked on opera sets with Auguste Rubé and Chaperon. He participated in the decoration of the Tours theater. From the 1890s he became involved with the symbolist-inspired painter Louise Desbordes whom he married in 1906. From 1894 they had a workshop at 3 bis Cour de Rohan in Paris 6th. In 1896 Jouas introduced himself to Henri Beraldi, a great bibliophile and publisher. Beraldi immediately sees the young man's talent and the use he can make of it.
