Singularly the most important painting in American art history.... Found Liverpool -adjacent to Britannia's & Captain Cleland's home berth, Coburg dock. (with provenance to that effect from an estate sale at Cato Crane auctioneers at Stanhope street in sight of Britannia's home berth (If Britannia was berthed she would be visible from the building of Cato Crane, which even more incredibly, indeed might have been built & used to store her cargo in 1840); MOST SIGNIFICANTLY; PAINTED FOR A CAPTAINS' CABIN..captain Cleland of Liverpool (It is a 'CABINET' painting))..... Quite good condition for it's 180 years. A small repair in sky above the center of the boat & some flecks touched in here and there. Slight dent top right leading canvas not to be flat in the top right hand quarter as is evident in photos. More recent frame which has a small blemish central top and some slight wear. I took it out the frame as there is some writing on the top of the stretcher and a fixing was in the way. |
